The Buffalo County Highway Department advised that, pursuant to section 349.16 Wisconsin Statutes, seasonal weight restrictions will be imposed on certain County Truck Highways effective Wednesday, March 8, 2023.  These restrictions will remain in effect through the period of the spring thaw, normally until mid-April.  All overweight vehicles are subject to these restrictions.


As per Section 349.16(3) exemptions may be made to allow for vehicles carrying those commodities of which are used to perform necessary and vital services for the public health, safety, and welfare.  In accordance with this section emergency vehicle, school buses, municipal maintenance vehicles, refuse and recycle hauling, and vehicles transporting non-divisible perishable goods are exempt from these temporary weight restrictions.


Special concessions on overweight loads may be made on a case-by-case basis through the issuance of a single trip permit.  The application for these permits will be available on a restricted basis by contacting:

Applications for the permits must be made at least 24 hours in advance of the trip.  The Highway office will maintain documentation and log these single trip permits for use by the Law Enforcement agencies.
